Heart Disease
The circulatory system of the body comprises the heart, arteries and veins and delivers oxygen and food to all parts of the body. We have all seen the recent adverts showing how the arteries can become clogged up with fatty deposits! But how and why does this occur and can it be reversed?
There are many well known risk factors for heart disease including stress, smoking, alcohol, obesity, lack of exercise and high cholesterol. Hypothyroid is associated with high blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol. A high intake of oxidants, for example from smoking or eating fried foods, may lead to increasing arterial damage, especially if the person is deficient in antioxidants such as vitamin C and E.
How can Nutritional Therapy help?
Nutrition can help identify underlying causes and risk factors such as:
-
Impact of Stress
-
Access dietary risk factors including food intolerance.
-
Poor liver function - important for reducing cholesterol.
-
Hypothyroid risk
-
Homocysteine risk, through pin prick blood test
-
Heavy metal toxicity ie cadmium from smoking (sample of hair for testing)
-
Ensure nutrient and antioxidant rich diet and personalised supplement programme.
