Stress

My experience of working with clients over the years has enabled me to put together a variety of strategies for dealing with stress and I can recommend those I think will be appropriate for YOUR particular needs.

What is Stress? - We all need some stimulation, or we decline into apathy.  But each person has an optimum stress level.

The stress reaction is a physical one, for the very good reason that when primitive man had feelings of stress, the cause was likely to be physical danger.  His body reactions prepared him to run away fast, or to turn and fight.

The adrenal glands therefore release adrenaline, which produces a 'high' almost like a drug.  They also release cortisol. Together, these two hormones gear the whole body for action.  Digestion shuts down.  Glucose is released into the bloodstream to fuel the nerves and muscles.  Breathing, heart rate and blood pressure all increase, ready to deliver oxygen to the cells to burn the fuel and make energy.

Symptoms linked with stress

Hard to get up in the morning; tired all the time; anxiety, craving certain foods/drinks; anger; irritability; agressiveness; mood swings; restlessness; energy slump during the day; regular feelings of weakness; apathy; depression; feeling cold all the time.

Poor concentration; poor sleep patterns; rapid or pounding heartbeat; prone to catching 'flu or colds; muscle & joint aches; difficulty in making decisions; spotty skin; hard to shift fat around waist; hungry all the time; allergies; hair loss; yeast overgrowth; poor memory; headaches; hyperactivity; frequent sore throats; water retention; PMT; watery or itchy eyes; excessive sweating; bloated feeling; faintness; weight gain; hyperthyroidism.

In the long term major problems can occur, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer.
