Weight Loss Tips

Lack of sleep leads to decrease in the hormone leptin and increase in ghrelin leading to increased appetite.

Solution – get plenty of sleep 7 -8 hours if possible

Central heating or air conditioning means the body doesn’t have to work to stay warm or cool therefore using less calories.

Solution – turn down the heating or turn off the air conditioning

Many pollutants in the environment are endocrine (hormone) disruptors.

Solution – eat organic and change to chemical free personal and household products

Medications – many have weight gain as a side effect.

Solution – check with your GP and ask for an alternative

Watching TV is time spent being completely sedentary.

Solution – watch less than 10hrs of TV per week

Are all your friends overweight?

Solution – invite them to join you in healthy eating and exercise, you can support each other.

When you get the munchies - do you really feel hungry? Often hunger is confused with being thirsty and sometimes its just boredom.

Solution - find something to do or drink a glass of water instead. If you are still hungry eat a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts.

Be organised and disciplined in your menu planning and grocery shopping and you are more likely to stick to your healthy eating plan. Only buy what you need.

Solution - don't be tempted by king size packs or buy one get one free offers!

Do you feel hungry after work and always buy a snack,

Solution - prepare yourself by taking a healthy snack with you so you won't be tempted.

 

Exercise & Weight loss

For significant weight loss exercise for 30 mins, 4 times a week.

Solution – schedule exercise you enjoy into your dairy so that you make time for it

   

And Finally…

Remain optimistic – research suggests that people who are optimistic (ie that have perceived control, positive expectations, empowerment, and a fighting spirit and lack of helplessness) are more successful at changing behaviours and losing weight.
